Bluffton, S.C.- On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 25 an accident on Highway 278 resulted in the death of Jesse Floyd and her unborn child. The fatal accident took place at the intersection of 278 and Buck Island Road and involved three vehicles: the SUV in which Floyd was a passenger, a van, and a car driven by Aaron Johnson.

Ryan Floyd, the SUV’s driver, suffered head lacerations and a broken ankle. The drivers of both other vehicles were left with minor injuries.

As of July 26, the Bluffton Police Department was still investigating the specifics of the accident, but did announce in a press release that the cause is believed to be mechanical problems Johnson’s car sustained while crossing the eastbound lanes of 278—making the car stall. The SUV and the van (both headed eastbound on 278) were not afforded enough time to stop and avoid the stalled car.

Jesse Floyd’s death occurred on Tuesday night because of her injuries.
