BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC – The Beaufort County School District purchased 23,000 pairs of eclipse glasses for every student in their district. Glasses have already been distributed to the principals to give out to students.

The glasses were manufactured by American Paper Optics. They are certified by NASA.

The district purchased the glasses for the safety of their students. When watching the partial eclipse, the glasses are to remain on the entire time. It is not safe to stare directly at the sun’s rays.

Students in Beaufort County will have the day of the eclipse, August 21, off from school. Because of this the schools will be starting back two days earlier. They hope to use this time to educate the students on the ellipse before it actually takes place.
