Hilton Head Prep’s girls continued their dominant sprint to the finish with a 6-nil win over Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach to capture the SCISA 3A title. It was the Dolphins’ 11th straight win, and they outscored the opposition 57 to 7 over that stretch, including a 24 to 2 goal differential in three playoff games. Sophomore Callah Dando recorded a hat trick in all three postseason games and finished with three goals and an assist.

Beaufort Academy’s girls joined the Dolphins in the winner’s circle with a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Holy Trinity in a clash for the SCISA 2A/1A crown. The Mighty Lions took a 1-0 lead to halftime, but eighth-grader Keiley Good found the equalizer in the second half and Lele Cooler and Madi McDougall powered BA to its first girls soccer title since 2017.

We caught up with the champs, talking with Hilton Head Prep coach Risa McMillan and stars Cat Zamora and Callah Dando, as well as Beaufort Academy phenom Keiley Good. Check it out on the Lowco Media YouTube channel.

The magical run to the state championship game ended just short of the mountaintop for the Mighty Lions and three other Lowco squads.

Holy Trinity’s boys were outmatched in the SCISA 1A final, falling 8-nil to Charleston Collegiate, while Beaufort Academy’s boys came up short in a 3-1 loss to Greenwood Christian in the SCISA 2A title game.

The Beaufort High boys reached the first state final in program history with a 13-game winning streak, but the Eagles ran into a buzzsaw Saturday night at Irmo High School. Perennial power and defending state champion Daniel built a 3-nil lead in the first half by capitalizing on set pieces, allowing the Lions to drop into a defensive formation and hold Beaufort at bay despite a valiant effort.

Starting with the state championship football team in the fall, it has been a magical year on Lady’s Island, and the Beaufort High baseball team still had one trick up its sleeve Saturday. The Eagles trailed visiting Dreher 5-1 with just six outs to go, but Beaufort batted around in a three-run sixth inning to get back to the top of the order in the seventh, then Zack Talbert drew a leadoff walk and Hudson Mullen launched the first pitch he saw for a two-out walkoff home run to send the Eagles to a 6-5 win and another elimination game tonight at Brookland-Cayce.

The only other area baseball team still playing is at Patrick Henry Academy. The Patriots will have ace Charlie Sauls on the mound tonight for game 1 of their SCISA 2A championship series at Calhoun Academy.

The high school softball season drew to a close Saturday, as Colleton County’s run ended with a 10-0 loss to West Florence, and Colleton Prep was the last team standing in the SCISA state tournament, winning a pair of games before falling to Calhoun Academy.

Finally, it’s time for the big payoff at the end of a long grind for area track and field stars who punched their ticket to the state meet this weekend.

In the Class 4A Lower State meet, Hilton Head High’s boys finished third in the team standings with champions Janile Roberson and Caden Thune leading the charge, while May River’s Anya Arroyo and McKenna Swinton claimed titles to lead the Sharks to third place in the girls standings. Colleton County’s Makayla Chisolm won the javelin.

Beaufort High’s girls finished second and the boys were third at the Class 3A Lower State meet with Anaiya Houseal and Eric Smart winning titles, along with Battery Creek’s Kiara Wilson and Tanner McCracken claiming gold in the discus. The Dolphins went 1-2-3 in the boys discus.
The Wade Hampton boys brought home the Lower State title in Class 2A, edging Woodland by three points thanks to gold-medal performances from Kaden Priester, Kyzir Gillison, Mekhi Davis, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Ziy’kila Henderson won the 100-meter hurdles to lead the Red Devil girls to a third-place finish.

And in Class 1A, Whale Branch’s Jesse Richardson won the 800, 1600, and 3200, while Jonathan Kelley and Bradford Thompson claimed gold and the Warriors won the boys 4x100 relay. Destiny Pryor was a double-winner on the girls side, while Alani Crawford and Talaijah Bartley also won events and the Whale Branch girls won the 4x100 and 4x800 relays. Estill’s Darius Brooks and Amirah Lewis also won gold.
