SPORTS REPORT

It’s still a few months until the USCB Sand Sharks hit the hardwood for season 2 of Sand Shark basketball, but the recruiting classes are starting to take shape, and Ron Fudala added two more pieces to his men’s roster this week, with both spurning NCAA Division I programs to come play in the Lowco.

USCB inked 6-foot-6 wing Krishen Atwal, who comes from Florida via Air Force Prep and had previously committed to Air Force Academy before switching to the Sand Sharks. Fudala also picked up 6-foot-4 guard Lukas Platauna, a former Woodville-Tompkins standout who is transferring from Mercer. They join high school standouts Dominic Eason and Caden Douglass, as well as 6-10 center Patrick Iriel, a transfer from USC Upstate who initially signed with the Gamecocks out of A.C. Flora High School in Columbia.

Can’t wait to see these guys next season in The Cove.

The high school sports season has wrapped up in the Lowco, but the South Carolina junior golf season is just firing up, and it’s a home game this week for a number of Lowco golfers who are among the best in the Palmetto State.

The Match Play at Congaree got underway with boys stroke play qualifying Monday, and Hilton Head Prep star Jack Crousore locked down the No. 1 seed in the 32-player bracket.

Crousore cruised through the first two rounds of match play Tuesday to set up a matchup with ninth-seeded Coleman Ferguson of Columbia this morning, and Hilton Head Prep teammate Jeep Patrick knocked off No. 2 seed Bennett Scalette in the second round to join him in the quarterfinals.

Fellow Dolphin Cade Kriscunas and Bluffton’s Luke Block won their opening matches but were bounced in round 2.

Hilton Head Prep standout Bridget Wilkie is the No. 3 seed in the girls bracket and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4&2 win Tuesday, while Hilton Head’s Lexi Milbrandt and May River’s Claire Green and Robbin Zetrouer fell in round 1.
