Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!
We’re knocking on the door of another exciting week of high school football in the Lowco with a jam-packed slate of 15 games across our four-county coverage area, an anomaly created because we only have two Lowco-on-Lowco battles on the schedule.
The stakes will be high in The Tank as the May River Sharks try to nail down their first Region 7-4A win after opening with frontrunners Lucy Beckham and James Island, but they’ll have to contend with a confident Colleton County Cougars team coming off a huge 26-21 homecoming win over the Hilton Head Seahawks a week ago. It’s a bit of a homecoming for Cougars coach Adam Kinloch, who spent time as an assistant at May River before a long run as offensive coordinator at Whale Branch. Major playoff implications.
Not so much at Thomas Heyward Academy, where the SCISA 1A Rebels host SCISA 2A foe Beaufort Academy on Friday, but that sure doesn’t mean this one doesn’t mean anything. Coach Nic Shuford and quarterback Dietrich Shuford are going back to their old stomping grounds to roam the visiting sidelines in BA blue, so this cross-classification clash has plenty of juice.
In other notable games being played in our neck of the woods, undefeated Whale Branch is back in Seabrook for homecoming with a key region clash against Allendale-Fairfax, and red-hot HHCA looks for its sixth straight win with Pee Dee Academy in town.
Elsewhere in Region 7-4A, the Bluffton Bobcats hit the road to take their best shot at undefeated James Island and Hilton Head aims for its first region win with a home game against unbeaten Lucy Beckham.
Plus, Hampton County hosts Woodland in a matchup of No. 5 and No. 6 in Class 2A, and yours truly will be on the call with Andrew Davis for Woodland at Hampton County in the WSAV/CW showcase game.
