SPORTS REPORT

And it’s time to gear up for Week 6 of the high school football season. In fact, Week 6 got an early start last night with Colleton County falling 41-14 to Stratford, but that was just an appetizer for the main course coming Friday night.

We have four Lowco-on-Lowco rivalries on tap, including the WHHI-TV Game of the Week in The Den, where the Bluffton Bobcats will try to slow down the red-hot Hilton Head Seahawks in a pivotal Region 6-4A opener.

The winner will get a year of bragging rights and reach the .500 mark for the season when Battery Creek hosts rival Whale Branch. The Warriors have won six of the last seven meetings, but the Dolphins won the last one at home in 2022. Our friends at Beaufort’s Own will have the broadcast from Burton.

Another natural rivalry will be reborn with the return of the Ben Riley Classic, with Hardeeville hosting Ridgeland to open Region 4-1A play and the winner locking down a playoff spot, and longtime rivals Colleton Prep and Beaufort Academy hook up on Lady’s Island in a key SCISA 1A matchup.

We’ll have five other home games around the Lowco, starting with the matinee at Hilton Head Prep with the Dolphins hosting Dillon Christian for a 5pm kickoff. They’ll kick at 7pm at City Hall in Hardeeville, where John Paul the 2nd hosts the Augusta Eagles for homecoming, and we’ll have 7:30pm starts for Hilton Head Christian Academy’s region showdown with Pinewood Prep, Hampton County’s clash with upstate power Christ Church, and a tussle between Thomases in Ridgeland with Heyward hosting Sumter.

It’s road trip time for undefeated May River, which plays the first of four straight road games at Georgetown, while Patrick Henry travels to Faith Christian and Cross Schools hits the road to face 8-man powerhouse Jefferson Davis.

Tune in to the Lowco Media Network at 9:30 p.m. tonight to get ready for a busy Lowco Friday Night.
