Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!
And it’s almost time to kick off the second round of the high school football playoffs. Only six of the 14 teams from the Lowco coverage area won in round 1, and it will be a battle to survive and advance Friday night.
It’s already semifinal week for SCISA squads, including Hilton Head Christian Academy, which takes a 9-game winning streak on the road to Pinewood Prep to face Devonte Holloman and the Panthers, who have won eight straight. Something has to give, and the winner will likely be considered the favorite to take home the SCISA 3A title next weekend at Charleston Southern.
Thomas Heyward is trying to survive to championship Saturday for the sixth consecutive year, but the Rebels will have to get past the team that denied them a fifth straight title last November with defending SCISA 1A champ Lee Academy visiting Ridgeland. The teams have met in the title game each of the past three seasons with the Cavs claiming a 28-0 win last fall for their first win in seven tries against the Rebels.
In the other 1A semifinal, Patrick Henry travels to Dorchester Academy for a rematch of the Raiders’ 38-23 win over the Patriots in October.
Only two area public schools advanced to the second round, but both have championship aspirations. Defending 3A champion Beaufort High heads to Crestwood for a rematch of a thriller in the second round of the Eagles’ title run a year ago, and Hampton County hosts Andrews in Class 2A.
Team Lowco will be posted up at Jay’s Barbershop in Ridgeland from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday before we head out to cover the games, so stop by and say hi and hear from special guests.
