The Town is unveiling a new exhibit kiosk and public art mural to honor the history of the Hilton Head Fishing Cooperative and the thwarted BASF petrochemical plant that was planned for Victoria Bluff in 1970.

Fishing Cooperative operated from 1966-1978 on this site. Native Islander shrimpers founded it to have a place for their catch to be unloaded, processed, and sold.
BASF proposed a petrochemical plant nearby that would have permanently wrecked our environment. Coop members and HHI developers teamed up to fight the plans. And succeeded in defeating it.
