SPORTS REPORT

It was a busy Monday night on the baseball diamonds with a bunch of Lowco-on-Lowco matchups, including a showdown in The Tank at May River, where Will Corn pitched a gem and the Sharks scratched together just enough on offense against Bobcats ace Miles Frye to take a 3-1 win. Rematch at Bluffton on Wednesday.

In the other Region 7-4A opener in this neck of the woods, Hilton Head High got hits up and down the lineup and strong pitching from Slater Alsobrook and Phoenix Shapiro in a 9-3 win over Colleton County. Round 2 Wednesday in Walterboro.

Chris Wells has another strong team at Hilton Head Prep, and the Dolphins were on top of their game Monday at John Paul the 2nd, staying unbeaten with an 8-1 win over the Golden Warriors. Six strong innings from JP Pirkey and two hits apiece for Jackson Stanyard and Calvin Middleton.

Elsewhere on the baseball diamond, Forest Fairey threw a four-hit shutout in Patrick Henry’s 5-0 win at Thomas Heyward, and Hilton Head Christian Academy routed Colleton Prep 17-0. Cody Bradt was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs, and five RBIs.

But the line of the night came from the softball diamond, where Battery Creek’s Haley Maroney was 5-for-6 with two triples, a homer, four runs, and nine RBIs, powering the Dolphins to a 22-13 win in a slugfest at Bluffton. Brooke Crosby was a single shy of the cycle with two RBIs for Creek. Catch the replay on Beaufort’s Own on YouTube.

Hilton Head High’s lacrosse teams continued their strong start with blowout wins, as the girls blasted Bluffton 16-4 and the boys shut down Savannah Country Day in a 12-1 victory, and JPII soccer dominated a doubleheader sweep of Patrick Henry.
