Coming up on November 6th, we are launching our new reallocation and route distribution system. Feeding America survey says there are over 20,600 persons in need in the tri-county area. Our plan to try to meet that need is as follows:
• Over the last year and a half, we have visited over 50 of our agencies across the Beaufort, Jasper & Hampton counties to survey their needs and see just how many people they serve per week/month.
• We have taken this data and are aligning it to how much food we take in and are able to deliver food according to each agency’s needs. This will help us serve more people on a more personal level.
• We owe it to our friends and neighbors to give our best to help them and we know that hunger has a local address and doesn’t take a day off, so we won’t either.
Our annual Beaufort & Hilton Head Volunteer Appreciation event have been held and we honored over 200 of our 425 volunteers at the events. We are looking forward to upcoming volunteer appreciation events in Bluffton which is held at Sun City!
We are also excited for the Rock ’N Ribs Fest - a Second Helping of Music, Booze, and BarBQ - starting on Thursday, October 19. There will be celebrity pitmasters, music headlined by 38 Special, comedy, and a lot of fun. Tickets are selling fast, and the event benefits Second Helpings. Our Fill the Need Program: Our partnership with Palmetto Breeze Transit to provide food to hospitality and service workers who ride buses up to two hours each way to work on Hilton Head Island - celebrates its sixth anniversary on October 19. We look forward to honoring Hosts4Community for their consistent and generous support of this program, which enables us to buy produce and protein to supplement rescued food!
