The Hilton Head Prep tennis team marched into its state title defense on Tuesday, opening the SCISA 3A playoffs with a home match against Thomas Sumter Academy, and to absolutely no one’s surprise, the Dolphins breezed to a 6-0 victory to advance to the semifinals against Pee Dee Academy on Thursday at Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter. Pee Dee knocked off John Paul the 2nd in a tight 5-4 battle, narrowly averting a Lowco-on-Lowco semifinal.
The winner will turn around and play in the championship match Friday, and the Dolphins are the clear favorite to bring home another title.
The May River Sharks volleyball team clinched its spot in the postseason Tuesday with a big win over rival Bluffton, and the Sharks’ victory also solidified a playoff spot for Hilton Head High despite the Seahawks falling short in a 3-1 loss at James Island last night.
The Seahawks will be on the road when the Class 4A playoffs open Thursday, Oct. 19, while the Sharks will draw a home game in the first round.

Hilton Head Christian Academy volleyball also picked up a big win with a sweep of Hilton Head Prep, and Beaufort Academy took down Patrick Henry in four sets.
