High school football season kicks off this weekend, and we were able to meet a number of the teams last week at WHHI’s annual high school football media day. On Friday we told you about two hopeful state championship contenders on Lady’s Island, and today we’ll cast a wider net across Beaufort County and take a look at what should be a very competitive Region 7-4A.
Defending champion James Island is the favorite to remain atop the region standings, but the Trojans will have a target on their backs, and a few Lowco teams are ready to take their best shot.
And here’s a cool story with a Lowco connection. Former Hilton Head Island resident and Hilton Head High teacher Todd White captured the S.C. Golf Association’s Amateur Championship on Sunday at age 55. It’s his second state amateur title, and the first one came in 1990. Thirty-three years later, he’s back on top after shooting 10-under-par over 72 holes to edge Greenville’s Rafe Reynolds by one shot. Keep grinding, y’all.
