The Hilton Head Baseball Association all-star teams continued their dominance so far this summer with another big night Monday. The 8U Island Boys claimed the Double A Coach Pitch district title with an 11-2 win over Bluffton National over at Burton Wells Park, sending them on to the state tournament next month in Dillon. The Hilton Head squad outscored four opponents 45-2 and should be a tough out at state.
That’s two Hilton Head teams who have punched their tickets to state in the past four days, and a third is well on its way. The 10U Minors team stayed unbeaten with a 17-1 rout of Bluffton and can advance to Wednesday’s championship game by winning a rematch tonight in Walterboro. Hilton Head has won its first two games by a combined 35-4 and is two wins away from a trip to Clemson next month for the state tournament.
And over the weekend the Extra Mile Club track team out of northern Beaufort County were in Greensboro for the AAU Jim Law Invitational, where the Tigers brought home three golds. Destiny Pryor won the 17-18 girls long jump and EMC claimed the 17-18 girls 4x100 relay and 4x100 mixed relay. Talaijah Bartley had a runner-up finish in the 100 meters, and Jonathan Kelley finished second in the 110 hurdles and 200 meters and third in the 100.
