SPORTS REPORT

Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!

The February Frenzy of the high school basketball playoffs kept cranking last night, and the Hampton County boys were back in Estill for a third-round Class 2A matchup with Andrew Jackson, and it was a certified Donnybrook. The lead went back and forth for most of the night, but the Hurricanes took over in the fourth quarter as KaVon Chisolm racked up 22 points and 11 rebounds and Darius Brooks added 16 points to lead Hampton County to a 68-56 win and a berth in the Lower State final against powerhouse Oceanside Collegiate.

Round 2 of the SCISA state tournament was on tap last night, and we had a rare “home” game, but it didn’t go well for the home team. Hilton Head Christian Academy’s girls were in top form to open their bid for a sixth consecutive state title, as Mya Hutchinson poured in 31 points and Devon Yarde added 22 to power the Eagles to a 71-21 rout of Hilton Head Prep.

You can see more highlights from both games, as well as an interview with Yarde on last night’s episode of the LowcoSports Lowdown, now streaming on-demand on the Lowco Media Network on YouTube.

HHCA could still face a familiar foe in the championship game, because John Paul the 2nd’s girls rolled into the state semifinals for the first time with a 44-31 win over Florence Christian behind 24 points and 16 rebounds from Brady Mahoney, as well as 13 points and seven boards from Lily Termini.

The girls from Patrick Henry stayed alive in the SCISA 2A bracket with a 48-45 win over St. John’s Christian Academy, getting 16 points and six rebounds from Saquoia Sexton to lead the way. The Lowco only went 1-for-3 in that bracket last night, though, as Colleton Prep and Beaufort Academy bowed out in round 2.

The high school lacrosse season also got underway with Hilton Head’s boys edging A.C. Flora 7-6 and Bluffton’s girls holding off Beaufort 8-5.

For LowcoSports and WHHI, I’m Justin Jarrett. Until next time, Go Lowco!
