Beaufort High softball opened region play last night, and star pitcher Kylie Rast was locked in, throwing a three-inning no-hitter in a 15-0 rout of Philip Simmons with all nine outs coming via strikeout and only one Iron Horse reaching base on an error. Rast also went 2-for-3 with a homer. Battery Creek also won big, blanking North Charleston 17-0.
The Eagles were on the other end of a gem on the baseball diamond, as Philip Simmons’ Nolan Clifford struck out 13 in a 3-0 one-hit shutout.
The Eagles did take the dub over the Iron Horses in a key girls soccer matchup, as Selena Duncan continued her hot streak with a hat trick in a 4-2 win, but Philip Simmons took the boys game 2-nil.
Hilton Head Prep’s girls blanked St. Vincent’s 6-0 with a second straight clean sheet from keeper Brooke Heins and four goals from Callah Dando, John Paul the 2nd bageled First Baptist 3-nil, and the girls from Battery Creek, Bridges Prep, and Hilton Head High all won lopsided shutouts.
The May River Sharks and Bluffton Bobcats both drew tough matchups and suffered tough defeats in their region openers, as powerhouse James Island blanked both May River teams and Lucy Beckham swept the Bobcats. Hilton Head’s boys won big against Colleton County.
Bluffton boys lacrosse won big with four goals and two assists each from Jake Ridgway and Brody Ryan, and Hilton Head Prep’s golf team finished second at the prestigious Bengal Invitational in Columbia, just three shots behind champion AC Flora. Prep’s Jeep Patrick and HHCA’s Sage Bradshaw both tied for third overall.
