After enjoying some early success on the road, the John Paul the 2nd volleyball team finally got to play on the home hardwood last night with St. Andrew’s coming over from Savannah for a non-conference clash, and JPII alum and former LowcoSports student intern Taylor Michael was on the scene as the Golden Warriors rallied after dropping the first set to claim a 3-1 win and remain undefeated this season.
Lili Lutheran anchored a strong defensive effort and JPII racked up 28 kills with Lily Termini and Savannah Trott collecting six apiece and Camryn Michael and Alainna Hill adding four each.
The competition steps up a notch tonight when the Golden Warriors host SCISA 4A foe Northwood Academy.
In other volleyball action this week, Hilton Head Prep dropped both ends of a tri-match in Savannah, falling to Habersham School and Frederica Academy, and Palmetto Christian swept Colleton Prep, but the Cross Stingrays followed up a runner-up finish to JPII at the IP Builders Preseason Tournament at Colleton Prep with a 3-0 sweep of Coastal Homeschool.
Don’t sleep on Cross this year, especially the girls teams. Volleyball off to a strong start and the girls basketball team will be a SCISA 1A title contender. You heard it here first.
The Friday Night Lights flip on tomorrow night, and WHHI will be at the Lowco-on-Lowco showdown between Thomas Heyward and JPII, while Team Lowco will round up all the scores, stats, and highlights we can muster and share them with you live at 11 p.m. Friday night on Lowco Pigskin Live, so if you’re geared up for kickoff, make plans to stay up late with us every Friday this fall.
