Burton Wells Park in Beaufort has been the center of the universe since Friday for state champions from throughout the Southeast, who converged on the Lowco for the Dixie Boys and Junior Boys World Series tournaments, and a couple of the local squads were still in the fight after surviving the weekend.
Beaufort County’s 13-and-under all-stars dropped their opener to a powerful squad from Texas, but the hosts bounced back to win two elimination games Sunday, sending the Tennessee state champs home with a 7-2 win and beating team Florida 6-2 to advance to another elimination game against North Carolina this afternoon.
The Tri-County All-Stars, made up of players from Hampton, Barnwell, and Bamberg counties, knocked out the 14-and-under Beaufort County squad in a one-run battle and ousted Virginia later in the day to earn a date with Dothan (Alabama) in an elimination game this afternoon.
