November is American Diabetes Month
Diabetes is the Fastest Growing Chronic Disease in the World
Nationwide, over 38 million adults have diabetes, with someone new being diagnosed every 26 seconds. Because nearly one in two (or 136 million) Americans has diabetes or prediabetes, it’s likely someone you know or love is impacted.
Obesity is a leading risk factor for developing prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and accounts for up to 53% of new cases of type 2 diabetes every year. Unfortunately, stigma, shame, and blame too often keep people who need obesity care from pursuing it.
In this interview, the ADA’s CEO, Charles D. “Chuck” Henderson, will discuss what the ADA is doing to raise awareness about type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment and early screening/detection for type 1 diabetes. He’ll teach viewers how to recognize the signs of diabetes and what steps can be taken to help people on their journey to better health. Lastly, he will share what the ADA is doing to further the fight to end diabetes once and for all.
