Even a Sparrow
My Debut Historical Novel!
As I retired psychologist, I began writing for fun and because I loved telling stories. I joined several writing groups that encouraged me to finish the novel floating in my mind. The historical novel Even a Sparrow is loosely based on my fourth great-grandparents, Johann and Anna Klem, who made an arduous and harrowing journey with four young children from Germany to the wilderness of western New York in 1816. Their journey included a shipboard mutiny, which altered their plans, sending them to Newfoundland rather than New York City. They were met with wolves, snakes, and disease when they finally reached their sparsely populated destination. My past career in psychology helped me access the characters' emotions and motivations.
