SPORTS REPORT
Won’t be seeing any sporting events in the Lowco for the next couple days as we hunker down for the hurricane, but we got in one last turn on deck with three Beaufort County schools going fin-to-fin at the Bluffton Pool, where the May River Sharks swept the day, beating rivals Bluffton and Beaufort. The Bobcats boys edged the Eagles but Beaufort’s girls came out on top versus Bluffton.
May River’s Ryan Mooney and Mia Yemec each won two individual events, as did Bluffton’s Sam Deaton and Beaufort’s Amorette Chapman. Beaufort’s Susan Cushman claimed one victory and narrowly lost to Yemec by four one-hundreths of a second in the race of the night in the 100 free.
Other individual winners were May River’s Addison Gourley, Stella Pelger, Bryce Cooler, and Christian Kulach; Bluffton’s Andrew Gerschutz and Kenneth Lagos; and Beaufort’s Claire Jones.
In other headlines, Bridges Prep girls volleyball swept a region doubleheader from Branchville to improve to 4-0 while HHCA swept Beaufort High, and May River’s boys volleyball team beat Battery Creek in four sets to go to 5-0 on the season.
Too soon to say whether the weather will allow us to enjoy another Lowco Friday Night as scheduled, or we might get a whole weekend of high school football.
Colleton County has already moved its home game with White Knoll to Saturday, tentatively at 2 p.m., but there are a lot of moving parts as with any hurricane, so the plan is ever-shifting with the storm.
Stay tuned to the LowcoSports Twitter and Instagram feeds and our livestreamed shows on the Lowco Media YouTube channel so we can help keep each other in the loop.
Stay safe out there, y’all!
