Now in its 41st year of operations, Lowcountry Food Bank serves the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina and distributed more than 42 million pounds of food, water and essential products in 2023!
Mission: We help provide equitable, dignified and consistent food access
Vision: A nourished and thriving coastal South Carolina.
Business model: We distribute food and essential products to about 230 partner agencies, including on-site meal programs, homeless shelters and emergency food pantries.
We currently have a food insecurity rate of 8,7% in coastal South Carolina. That means 131,220 people don’t have enough food to eat on any given day. More than 34,000 of these individuals are children.

Lowcountry Food Bank advocates for policies and actions that address barriers to equitable food access on behalf of our neighbors who experience food insecurity.
We help empower our communities to build resilient food systems, advance our partner agencies’ capacity, and we listen and act to support our neighbors’ voices.
Lowcountry Food Bank partner agencies distribute more than 88% of the food we procure
More than 40% of all food we distributed last year was fresh produce
Almost 40% of the food we distributed last year came from our retail and food industry partners
We are getting back to farmer’s market-style food distributions that reach our neighbors where they are
We use GIS mapping technology to strategically identify and fill meal gaps
Lowcountry Food Bank Foundation provide long-term financial support to Lowcountry Food Bank
We support our partner agencies and food pantries to serve our communities
We our expanding our presence to the southernmost counties we serve with a new 20,000 square-foot facility slated to open in 2025
