While many families cherish the holiday season, the majority of our Lowcountry neighbors struggle daily to meet their basic needs and the holidays add an additional level of stress to their household. At Bluffton Self Help, our longstanding tradition is to ensure that every Lowcountry neighbor can bring home a turkey or ham, and holiday trimmings.
This is even more necessary this year as we see an increased need (up 20-25% over last year) in households needing the support of BSH to fill their fridges and pantries.
As food/grocery costs are affecting our neighbors, the costs are affecting our budget too. We are spending 50% more per month on milk, eggs, protein, and fresh produce.
It is really important to us that we are providing healthy options -- and healthy food is more expensive. Shopping on the edges of the grocery store always costs more than the aisles.
Supporting BSH's Thanksgiving campaign either through monetary donations or food from our wish lists, will make a world of difference for families this year.
