A couple more district champions were crowned on the diamonds this weekend, and it’s shaping up to be a long summer for the softball all-stars from Bluffton and the baseball boys from Hilton Head.
The 10-and-under softball stars from Bluffton advanced to the state tournament with a pair of wins over Beaufort this weekend, holding on for an 8-7 victory on Saturday before breaking it open for a 9-2 win Sunday to clinch the district championship, joining the 8-and-under Bluffton team in the state tournament later this month.
Over at The Crossings Park, the baseball all-stars have been doing battle, and the home team has fared well. Hilton Head’s 8-and-under baseball all-stars breezed through their district tournament, outscoring their four opponents 40-6, including back-to-back shutouts to close out the title. That’s with the other team’s coach pitching and trying to hit the bats. Impressive defense.
Hilton Head’s 10u team is off to an even more dominant start to its all-star season and needs just one more win to claim a district championship. Hilton Head won its first two games 25-0 and 23-0 and can punch its ticket to the state tournament with a win over Bluffton tonight.
The 12-and-under baseball and softball all-stars make their debut tonight in Beaufort, with both tournaments getting underway at 6pm at Burton Wells Complex.
