Patrick Henry Academy put it all on the line Saturday in Orangeburg, and the Patriots’ bats picked up where they left off in a miraculous comeback win in Game 2. The Fairey twins each had three hits and combined for seven RBIs at the top of the order, and Chandler Brown knocked in a run and struck out six in a five-inning complete game to lead Patrick Henry to a 12 to 2 rout of Calhoun Academy and give the Patriots their first baseball title since 1991. Forest Fairey was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs, and four RBIs in the leadoff spot, Hugh Fairey went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and three RBIs, and Nathan Corley was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in a dominant performance from the Patriots.

But it will be football season before you know it, and we got a little taste of what is to come this weekend at Hilton Head High, where Seahawks coach BJ Payne got a little help from his friends to put on another star-studded edition of the All-American Football Camp.
This past weekend at Hilton Head Island High School, hundreds of Lowcountry boys and girls got to live out their football dreams right here at home at the 2023 All-American Football Camp. Over 230 kids came out on Friday through Sunday to work with 17 coaches, ranging from current National Football League stars, college prospects, and the best of all Hilton head Seahawk Alumni. Head coach BJ Payne has continued to raise the caliber of the event each year, and created an unforgettable football experience for the Lowcountry’s youth.
The event attracted several NFL standouts, including Christian Wilkins, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence fresh off after signing his big four year deal with the Giants. And Poona Ford, the legendary Hilton Head Seahawk and newest Buffalo Bill came along with his always big smile, college stars from Clemson, Ohio State, and Notre Dame also made the trip, headlined by Hilton Head High’s own Jaylen Sneed. The explosive former Seahawk linebacker came back to inspire the next batch of island talent at his alma mater and had an experience he won’t soon forget.
He was joined by other former Seahawks too, including Gaston Moore, Cole Demarzo and Chris Marable, some of them former campers at the event years ago. The camp consisted of various drills to get kids acclimated to a variety of football positions, and allowed for them to interact and learn from some of the idols they’ve been looking up to. On Saturday, the youngsters got to team up with some of the pros to play some pick-up football and put on a heckuva show. It all added up to a memorable weekend and a glimpse of what hard work can do right here in the Lowco.
