We all know tons of golf talent has long sprouted from the Lowcountry, and the ladies of the Lowco links have been showing out lately.
The top-ranked May River High School girls posted a team score of 322 in an 18-hole meet at Rose Hill Golf Club on Monday to capture the Region 7-4A title by 25 shots over Hilton Head High, with Claire Green leading the charge for the Sharks with a scorching round of 69 to take the individual title by seven shots over Hilton Head’s Lexi Milbrandt. May River’s Robbin Zetrouer and Ava Cunningham and Hilton Head’s Brooke Niclaus and Catharine Gavin joined Green and Milbrandt on the all-region team along with region player of the year Anna La Pour of Bluffton.
The USCB Sand Sharks are also coming off a strong outing in which Ashleigh Mead earned the fourth title of her college career with a 5-over 218 and a four-shot win at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in North Carolina. The Sand Sharks finished third among 11 teams.
Hilton Head High’s girls tennis team swept past James Island on Monday to improve to 7-1 in regon play, and the Seahawks get a chance to avenge the one loss this afternoon when they host frontrunner Lucy Beckham in a key clash.
And Bluffton’s Earlon Baker placed second in the boys Red division at the Wendy’s Invitational cross country race on Saturday with a time of 16:09, helping the Bobcats edge Hilton Head High for sixth place. JD Gilman was 10th overall to lead the Seahawks.
