One of the smallest schools in Beaufort County has snagged its next Athletic Director from the district’s largest school. May River High School AD Brett Macy announced his resignation from the school to take over as the AD and assistant principal at Bridges Prep next fall.
Macy was the boys basketball coach at Bluffton High School before being charged with building the new program when May River opened its doors in 2016. His departure follows that of the principal who brought him in and the football coach he entrusted to lay the foundation, marking the close of the initial era of Shark Athletics.
Macy said the timing and the opportunity to help usher in a period of growth for the Buccaneers made the move attractive, especially with the chance to ease into school administration attached. But the Bucs don’t have a football team — yet — so don’t worry Shark fans, your quarterback isn’t going anywhere. Tanner Macy will still be under center at May River this fall.
And a group of women in the Lowco got together last night at Berkeley Hall to help more local girls get the chance to tee it up. Nationally recognized instructor Krista Dunton and Berkeley Hall head pro Stephanie George teamed up with other local pros to put on the 10th installment of the Women Helping Girls Golf fundraiser clinic. More than 50 women and girls came out to have fun and hone their skills while raising money to support Dunton’s local LPGA Girls Golf Chapter, which recently announced a partnership with The First Tee Lowcountry to continue growing the game for girls in the Lowco. Good people doing good.
