SPORTS REPORT

It was rematch night on the diamond, and it was revenge night for the Hilton Head Christian Academy baseball team. After losing at home to rival Hilton Head Prep on Monday, the Eagles returned the favor Wednesday in Sea Pines, as Hayden Brooks limited the Dolphins to two hits over six innings and Slaide Burd, Roman Colella, Keene Reese, and Alex Epstein each had two hits and knocked in runs in an 11-2 win to hand Prep its first loss and even the series. Rubber match April 10 at HHCA.

They only play two in Region 7-4A, and the May River Sharks made it a sweep of Hilton Head High, rallying for five runs with two outs in the sixth to steal a 6-3 win at The Nest. Landon Schwartz held the Sharks at bay for five innings and nearly got out of a jam in the sixth, but Tanon Mankowski’s groundball squeaked through and the top of the lineup kept the rally rolling to keep May River unbeaten in region play.

The Bluffton Bobcats nearly played spoiler on the Sharks’ behalf, but James Island kept pace at the top of the standings with a 4-3 win, though the Bobcats think they still have one strike left, and after looking at the video, they have a case.

Lucy Beckham rallied past Colleton County in the other Region 7-4A matchup, and Beaufort routed Savannah Christian 11-1 in a non-region contest.

On the softball diamond, May River’s Ana Caraballo continued her torrid start to the season, sitting down all 15 Hilton Head Seahawks she faced in a five-inning perfect game and going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in a 19-0 rout. Colleton County kept pace in the region standings with an 8-5 win over Lucy Beckham, and James Island beat up on Bluffton.
