If you missed the inaugural Lowcountry Legacy Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the Hardeeville Recreation Center, you don’t wanna miss the next one. And there will be a next one.
The alumni from Wade Hampton High School added one more for the trophy case - even though the history books officially closed on the school last spring. Led by former Red Devil legends such as Stevephen Walker, Cruize Griffin, and Justin Peeples, as well as recent grad and reigning Region 6-2A player of the year Isaac Gray, the Hampton crew ran through the double-elimination bracket undefeated and knocked off a spirited Bluffton Bobcats team in the championship game to claim Lowco bragging rights - until next time.
Hope to see some Seahawks, Sharks, Warriors, and a whole mess of Dolphins and Eagles take their best shot at the champs next time around.
Speaking of champs, we have a pair of them to celebrate after two Lowco golfers kept the hardware at home by winning the 28th annual Jimmy Self Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday on the Fazio Course at Palmetto Dunes.
Hilton Head High junior Lexi Milbrandt coasted to a three-shot win in the girls division after opening with a 1-over 71 on Friday to stake herself to a five-shot lead. And recent Hilton Head Prep graduate Garret Fader charged back from a four-shot deficit with a 1-under 69 in the final round to surge to a three-shot victory in the boys division. Bluffton’s Luke Block also fired a 69 on Sunday to climb the leaderboard and finish tied for second, while Hilton Head Prep’s Cade Kriscunas was fifth in the boys standings, and May River’s Robbin Zetrouer rounded out the girls’ top five.
