Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!
And it’s time to check in on the young men and women doing damage on the wrestling mats around the Lowco.
I was matside in The Tank last night, as the May River Sharks welcomed a couple opponents from across their respective bridges with Beach High School coming over from Savannah and Battery Creek hopping over from Burton for a tussle.
Both Lowco squads made quick work of the Bulldogs, as May River blanked Beach 84-0 and Battery Creek blasted the Bulldogs 82-6, setting up the main event for the night with a Lowco-on-Lowco finale.
The Dolphins drew first blood when Leroy Tyus scored a late reversal to steal a 2-1 win from Beau Gwynn, but the Sharks feasted in the lower weights with pins from Ryan Seman, Liam Engbloom, and Marcus Foulk swinging the tide.
Houston Rudisill, Dillon Seman, Michael Sands, Cecil Dunn, Josh Echeverria, and Will Mauro also won by pin to power the Sharks to a 60-17 victory.
Andrew Legree and defending state champ Gunnar DeGroat won by pin for the Dolphins.
In other wrestling action around the Lowco, John Paul the 2nd won 48-30 at Colleton County with pins from Daniel Snyder and Brian Orta helping to swing the balance, and a rebuilding Hilton Head High program held off Bridges Prep 40-29 in coach Mike Newton’s return to the bench.
Wednesdays are a quiet night for high school hoops, but John Paul the 2nd was in action at Andrew Jackson Academy, and the Golden Warriors brought home two dubs. The girls rolled to a 58-32 victory to run their winning streak to five games. Fifteen points and 13 rebounds for Brady Mahoney. And the boys held on 63-57 thanks to a couple late buckets from James Keefer.
