There’s only one high school sports season still churning in the Lowco, with the South Carolina High School League state track meets beginning Thursday with the Class 1A meet in Columbia, and it ended with a celebration for the track and field stars from Seabrook.
The Whale Branch girls claimed their third consecutive state title and the Warriors finished runner-up in the boys standings with a haul of medals coming back to the Lowco.
Among the biggest standouts were Destiny Pryor, who won gold in the 100 meters and silver in the 200 and long jump, Talaijah Bartley, who blazed to wins in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400, and Larmore Pryor, who took gold in the long jump and bronze in the 200. The trio was also joined by Natalia Aburto on the gold-medal-winning 4x100 relay.
Football star Bradford Thompson was the top point-scorer for the Whale Branch boys, placing second in the shot put and the discus, while the Warriors also took silver in the 4x100 relay, and Jesse Richardson and Keith Chisholm each scored in three events but fell short of the podium.
