Upcoming Discovery Lecture Series in January & February
Wednesday at 2:30pm

The Museum's Discovery Lecture Series promotes lifelong learning and sparks conversations about Lowcountry history, culture, ecology, and the environment.

It's a chance for people to connect with each and with a variety of experts.

Lifelong learning is good for you! Positive impact on our mental and physical health. Good for the wallet, too. Only $7 for each lecture.

Jan & Feb. Topics and Speakers: (Lectures take place in the Museum's Sea Island Gallery):

**January 24: Secrets of the Salt Marsh

Local educator Nicklas Bearden dives into the details of salt marshes, one of our most precious ecosystems. He’ll cover how salt marshes are created; what are the intricate systems woven through it.

**January 31: Fish Form and Function

This lecture is led by Lisa Kovalanchik. the assistant curator at the University of Georgia’s Aquarium, on Skidaway Island. Lisa will be discussing the amazing ways that fish adapt their appearance and movements to their watery world. Sharks will be covered, too.

** February 21: Archaeology at Mitchelville: Footprints in the Sand

Katie Seeber, an archaeologist at the Museum, will be sharing how she and her team used remote sensing equipment at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park to locate information buried deep in the sand left by Mitchelville residents.

** February 28: Gullah Artist Alvin Glen

Gullah art captures the story of a people and renowned artist Alvin Glen will be sharing the stories of SC people who inspired his paintings, now on display in the Sea Island Gallery, through March 12. The Museum is presenting his works in conjunction with the Native Island Business and Community Affairs Association (NIBCAA).
