Let’s start with a state champion, and let’s make it a double. Beaufort High freshman tennis star Graeme Angus captured his second consecutive state singles Tuesday, taking down Waccamaw’s Logan Tomovski in the finals. He’s only a freshman. Five in a row is on the table.
A few Lowco teams kept alive their hopes of celebrating a state title of their own last night. Patrick Henry’s baseball team advanced to the SCISA 2A championship series for the first time since 2013 with an 8-0 win over Dorchester Academy to sweep their semifinal series. Forest Fairey tossed a shutout and Chandler Brown went 3-for-4 to lead the Patriots.
Colleton County softball also stayed alive with a 10-7 comeback win over Westwood. Bailey Cox went the distance in the circle and Jordan Slocum was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Cougars, who face North Myrtle Beach on Thursday.
The SCISA boys soccer playoffs kicked off last night, and it was another good evening for the Lowco. John Paul the 2nd advanced with a 6-2 win over Florence Christian and will face a rematch of last year’s state championship game in the SCISA 3A semifinals at Oakbrook Prep, which knocked off Hilton Head Christian Academy by a 3-1 score. Beaufort Academy’s boys built a 3-0 halftime lead and held off Marlboro Academy 5-3 to advance to the SCISA 2A semifinals.
The girls get back after it tonight and we have a couple of Lowco-on-Lowco semifinals matchups on tap, including another SCISA 3A showdown between John Paul the 2nd and Hilton Head Prep at 5:30 p.m. in Sea Pines.
Beaufort High softball also puts its season on the line tonight at Marlboro County, needing two wins to advance to Lower State. Buckle up.
