BCSD Tides: A new dual enrollment program made possible by a partnership between the BCSD and TCL!
BCSD Tides represents a collaboration between the Beaufort County School District and the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Distinguishing itself from our existing dual enrollment initiatives, this program offers 9th to 12th-grade students the opportunity to enroll in college courses on a college campus while continuing their involvement in Beaufort County school extracurricular activities. The students will take courses in a cohort along with their peers.
Through the Tides program, students have the chance to earn not only their high school diploma but also an Associate's Degree, and in certain instances, even two Associate's Degrees.
BCSD Tides freshmen will declare one of two University Transfer Pathways as their “MAJOR”
• Associate of Arts: University Transfer Pathway
• Associate of Science: University Transfer Pathway
As the BCSD Tides cohorts progress to junior and senior high school status, students can take advantage of additional options to earn an Associate Degree in one of the following “MINORS”:
• Associate of Applied Science/Computer Technology-Programming
• Associate of Applied Science/Computer Technology-Networking
• Associate of Applied Science/Cybersecurity
• Associate of Applied Science/Business Administration
• Associate of Science/Allied Health Science - Medical Assisting
• Associate of Science/ Allied Health Science – Entrepreneurship/Small Business Certificate
It provides high school students with immediate access to higher education opportunities, allowing them to start earning college credits while still in high school. Additionally, the program offers supplementary academic, workforce, and economic prospects, which can accelerate their academic progress and lead to significant savings in both time and money on higher education expenses.
The credits transfer to all South Carolina public institutions. The University of South Carolina and Clemson will now accept TCL’s full associate degrees.
Students will receive support from the TCL dual enrolment coordinators, a Beaufort County administrator and a school who will be on the campus (New River and Mather campuses) to help our students as the go through the Tides program. Transportation will be provided for the Tides students. Students South out the Broad River will be transported to the New River Campus from their home school and students North of the Broad River will be transported.
The BCSD Tides program offers eligible BCSD students the opportunity to enroll in a full-time dual enrollment cohort where they will take degree-seeking college courses that will satisfy their high school requirements while earning two associate degrees. This program is designed for students who are interested in potentially earning two associate degrees before graduating high school.
We believe that this program will empower students to excel academically and prepare them for future success. By participating in the BCSD Tides program, students will gain valuable skills, knowledge, and experiences that will serve them well in their academic and professional pursuits.
