Second Helpings has moved! We are now located at 11-A Marina Side Drive, behind Restore Hyper Wellness. Our previous landlord needed our space for expansion and were incredibly accommodating as we searched for and found a similar space. Thanks to a crew of great volunteers, led by Janet Mosley, we were able to move without any interruption to our food rescue activities.
We were thrilled to learn that we are one of two beneficiaries of the Rock N’ Ribs festival, which is four days of world-class barbecue and music coming up from October 19 to 22. We love the title of the event: “A 2nd Helping of Music Booze & Barbeque” and are very excited with the line-up of events - celebrity pitmasters, great musical groups including .38 Special, comedy and more. I’m looking forward to the Pitmaster Ocean Olympics, where the chefs compete in corn hole, beach limbo, and more.
This week, the Port Royal Piggly Wiggly became Second Helpings’ 43rd food donor! We will be picking up from them every weekday, and we look forward to the difference it will make in the Beaufort area.
We are continuing to collect food in the Grayco parking lot on Palmetto Bay Road every Saturday morning from 8 to 11 am. We are also inviting residents to participate, and the response has been good.
Second Helpings operates eight refrigerated trucks to rescue food throughout Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties. It’s time to replace Truck #6, which has served us faithfully for 12 years and 150,000 miles and has enabled us to rescue five million pounds of food over its lifetime. This year’s Share the Bounty fundraiser is all about helping us retire that truck. We’ll be sending out more information to our donors and supporters, and there will be more information on our website.
