Now that spring break is over and Scottie Scheffler has reported for dad duty with two fancy new jackets after wrapping up his win at the RBC Heritage on Monday morning, it’s time for the high school sports scene to heat back up with the playoffs approaching.
It was a big night on the diamond, with key region matchups around the Lowco, as James Island shut down May River 3-1 to wrap up the Region 7-4A title, and Hanahan took the upper hand in Region 8-3A with a 6-4 win at Beaufort High. Bluffton picked up its first region win with a 2-1 victory on senior night behind a stellar outing from Miles Frye, while Hilton Head Christian Academy blanked Colleton Prep 10-0, and Hilton Head Prep’s JP Pirkey shut down a stout Patrick Henry lineup in a 5-1 win.
The softball teams from Colleton County, John Paul the 2nd, Battery Creek, and Bridges Prep all won big, and the girls soccer squads from Beaufort High, Patrick Henry, Hampton County, and Beaufort Academy all notched shutout wins along with the boys from PHA, and Hampton’s boys beat Whale Branch.
USCB’s softball season came to a close with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Georgia College, while John Paul the 2nd picked up a 7-2 win over HHCA on the tennis courts.
And a handful of Lowco teams were in the hunt for state titles after day one of the SCISA golf championships in Conway, so tune in tomorrow to see who brought home the hardware.
