Fair and Equitable Distribution of Rescued Food:
We are one week into our new reallocation system that is based on distributing food according to how many people our agencies serve. The initiative is going well, and everyone is receiving food according to their needs. If you serve more people, your portion is slightly more. If you serve less, you aren’t getting less food, it’s based on how many people they serve according to how much food we take in. across all 3 service areas, we are trying to account for and deliver each pound of food and ensure it goes where it’s needed and can do the most good. We are intentionally delivering food based on the needs of our agency that is backed by facts and data we have collected for almost 1.5 years.
WAHHI Food Drive in HHI & Bluffton:
Tuesday, November 14 from 11-3 the WAHHI group will hold two food drives at Steinmart on the island and the Kroger at Belfair in Bluffton. We will have a truck at each location to raise awareness that hunger has a local address, and we are trying to meet that need every day.
Upcoming Thanksgiving Day Community Meal:
Hudson’s Restaurant and St. Andrews By the Sea Methodist church will hold their annual Thanksgiving Day community meal on November 23rd that brings the community together for a great cause. The benefactors are Second Helpings, Deep Well & Bluffton Self Help
Now more than ever it’s easy to make a difference in the lives of those in need:
$.90 of every $1 go towards food rescue and serving those in need at SH. Because of our amazing food donors and volunteers our overhead is so low that for every $1 we take in that generates over 5 meals that we put back into the community. You don’t have to make large donations to change someone’s life or impact their situation. For someone who doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from isn’t really worried about next week, although that thought is on their mind. Having enough to eat today for them and their kids is life changing and enacts a renewed sense of community and restored dignity.
Volunteer opportunity at Second Helpings is easy, call or go to our web site for more info. Or give to your pantry in your area or offer your time to share a smile with those who desperately need it. The greatest thing we could do is put someone else first and show them they matter. Now, more than ever its needed and although we love large monetary donations and food donations, you can be the change and difference in someone today.
