Lots of news today, but let’s start on the links to put a bow on a terrific week that ended with a big prize for a Lowco golfer.
Hilton Head Prep’s Jack Crousore finished off a sterling run at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea up at Country Club of Charleston, shooting 10-under-par across 54 holes to edge Thomas Horne by two shots and bring the hardware home. After rounds of 64 and 67, Crousore played smart, steady golf, knowing it would be difficult to catch him in windy conditions.
May River’s Claire Green also had a strong showing, tying for 7th in the girls division at 4-over-par for 54 holes.
Speaking of May River, the Sharks named longtime girls basketball coach Jermaine Bigham the school’s interim AD on Thursday, becoming just the second person to hold the role after Brett Macy left for Bridges Prep this summer. Bigham has coached girls hoops since May River opened in 2016 and will remain on the basketball bench this season, but Beaufort County Schools prohibit permanent ADs from doubling as head coaches, so he would step aside if the interim tag is removed.
And it’s really here. High school football season kicks off for one Lowco team Saturday night when Beaufort Academy takes on Trinity Collegiate in a SCISA showdown at the 1team1cause Football Showcase at Charleston Southern.
