Bluffton Self Help merged with The Literacy Center in 2021 as we thought strategically about how to best help our community thrive.
Lack of education contributes directly to the inability to earn a livable wage. More than 60% of our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet.
Having just completed our academic year, we are thrilled with the results - 50% of our ESL students moved up to the next level (this is a journey that can take 4-6 years to become fully bilingual)!
11 students earned their GED with a 92% subject test passing rate on their first attempt!
8 students passed their U.S. citizenship test - a tremendous feat!
Our courses equip students with vital skills, improve job prospects and overall quality of life.
Graduates of our programs often secure better employment opportunities, achieve higher earnings, and experience greater confidence and independence.
We are seeking tutors for the fall semester to help our students grow educationally and financially. No prior teaching experience or knowledge of other languages is necessary.
