SPORTS REPORT

It was rematch night on the Lowco high school baseball landscape, and the May River Sharks used a big fifth inning to secure a 4-2 road win and a series sweep from the rival Bluffton Bobcats.

Tysen Brasington gave the Sharks four strong innings and Logan Hargis closed it out after Will Corn’s two-run single capped a three-run fifth that put May River in control.

Corn was our guest last night on the LowcoSports Lowdown. Impressive young man.

And they have an impressive team over at Hilton Head Christian Academy. The Eagles flexed some muscle in a Lowco-on-Lowco matchup last night, routing Beaufort High 17-1 on the road as Hayden Brooks struck out seven in a five-inning complete game and everybody hit for HHCA. They run it back tonight in Bluffton.

Jackson Stanyard struck out 10 in six innings of two-hit ball and Connor Campbell closed the door in Hilton Head Prep’s 4-2 win over John Paul the 2nd, while Xavier Oxner delivered a walkoff RBI single to give Colleton County a 7-6 win over Hilton Head, and Patrick Henry pounded First Preparatory Christian 11-2.

May River’s softball team opened its season with an impressive 14-8 win over Colleton County, and senior Ana Caraballo had a monster debut, going the distance in the circle and going 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs. Big night for Caydon Swofford, too – 4-for-5 with two triples and four RBIs.

In other softball action, Bluffton’s rally fell short in an 8-7 loss at Lucy Beckham, James Island routed Hilton Head, and Colleton Prep beat Dorchester Academy.

And John Paul the 2nd’s golf team picked up a win at Hampton Hall, shooting 167 over nine holes with medalist Ryan George carding an even-par 36.

Tune in to the Lowco Media Network at 10pm tonight to get all the latest local sports news on the LowcoSports Lowdown.
