High school lacrosse season just got started and we already had a couple of Lowco-on-Lowco showdowns on tap last night with rivals Blufton and Hilton Head High going head-to-head in a home-and-home. And it was all Seahawks on both sides of the bridges, as Hilton Head’s girls routed the Bobcats 16-1 on the road and the boys defended their home field with a 22-6 victory behind seven goals and an assist from Jackson Olander and two goals and eight assists from Brady Saba. Seahawk lacrosse looks strong this season.
May River girls soccer continued its strong start, as well, routing Effingham County 7-0 to run their aggregate total to 16-nil through two games. Nice. Hilton Head Prep’s girls picked up a 3-nil win over visiting Strong Rock Christian, and HHCA’s boys beat St. Andrew’s 3-1 after seeing the girls fall 1-nil.
At the Warrior Invitational at Whale Branch at Battery Creek, the co-host Dolphins had a big night with the girls beating Woodland 5-2 and the boys edging Hampton County 2-1, while the Hampton girls blanked the Warriors 7-0 and Beaufort High’s boys beat Charleston Math & Science.
And two baseball teams we’ll be keeping close tabs on were impressive last night, as HHCA blanked First Baptist 11-0 in its home opener and May River stunned Rock Hill 9-5 to open the Sandlapper Shootout. Heck of a line for Tysen Brasington – 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs.
Bridges Prep baseball held off Holy Trinity for a 10-7 win, and Colleton Prep softball outslugged Calhoun Academy 18-16.
