Fourth Edition of the Beaufort Human Library to be held on Sunday, April 7, 12:30-4pm at Technical College of the Lowcountry, Bldg. 12 (104 Reynolds St.)
More than a dozen “Human Books” will be available to share their personal stories of overcoming obstacles, prejudices, and discrimination in small group discussions. Human Books can be checked out every half-hour from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Topics include occupations, education, healthcare, gender, race, faith, immigration, addiction, abuse, and military service, among others.
The afternoon begins at 12:30 with the Human Library equivalent of a Big Read, a shared experience with one Book in the auditorium. Karen Gareis, who was recently featured on 60 Minutes, will share the story of her career of military service in the Navy and her current role as a high school librarian in the age of book bans.
The Human Library is a collaboration between the Conroy Center, DAYLO: Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization, TCL, and community organizers. Adult volunteer Librarians and student volunteer Books will be on hand to help guests—our Readers—navigate the experience. Readers can stay for a half hour, all afternoon, or any amount of time in between. Free and open to the public.
In addition, Zoe was recently named winner of the Foundation for Leadership Education’s Lighthouse Scholarship and a Heritage Classic Scholarship!
