The Lowco has become a hotbed for boys volleyball talent, and the top area squads began their quest for a state title last night with the first round of the South Carolina High School League playoffs.
Team Lowco’s Wes Kerr was in The Den, where the Bluffton Bobcats made quick work of Bridges Prep in a Lowco-on-Lowco showdown in round one, sweeping to a 3-0 victory to advance to a second-round matchup at Philip Simmons.
The May River Sharks also took care of business at home in the first round, sweeping visiting Airport 3-0 to set up a rematch with region rival Bishop England on Saturday.
The girls take the court tonight with volleyball home games for May River, Hampton County, and Bridges Prep, which is among the favorites to reach the Class 2A title game after a runner-up finish in Class 1A last year. Plus, May River, Hilton Head, and Battery Creek all host first-round matches in the girls tennis playoffs.
And of course, we’ll get you ready for another Lowco Friday Night with the Lowco Pigskin Preview tonight, previewing all 12 games on the Week 11 slate, including epic showdowns between Bluffton and May River in The Tank and Thomas Heyward vs. Beaufort Academy on Lady’s Island.
