The boys of summer were back at it last night at Oscar Frazier Park with opening night of the 12U Ozone district tournament, and in between lightning delays, it was a great night for the all-stars from Hilton Head and Bluffton. Hilton Head rolled to a 10-0 win over Jasper County, and Bluffton routed Beaufort 17-6, setting up a winner’s bracket matchup between Hilton Head and Colleton County and an elimination game between Beaufort and Jasper tonight.
The Bluffton 12U softball all-stars also stayed alive with a 17-9 win over Goose Creek to advance to the championship round tonight. They’ll have to beat Moncks Corner twice to claim the title. The Bluffton 8U softball all-stars will also face Moncks Corner in a key matchup after opening with a 15-0 win over North Charleston. Winner advances to the championship round.
Hitting the links, there’s a lot of Lowco on the leaderboard after round 1 at the WSCGA Amateur Championship on Fripp Island. USCB Sand Sharks standout Ashleigh Mead fired a 4-under-par 68 and held a one-shot lead over former Hilton Head Prep star turned USC Gamecock Sophia Burnett going into the final round with fellow Lowco reps Camila Burnett, Savannah Hylton, Kylie Bowes, and Robbin Zetrouer also inside the top 10 through 18 holes.
