Justin Jarrett: LowCo Lights Weekend Sports Recap | May 20, 2024 | LowCo Sports

SPORTS REPORT

We told you on Friday about the Whale Branch Warriors bringing a third consecutive Class 1A girls track title home to the Lowco with the boys from Seabrook collecting a runner-up finish, and we had more track and field stars from the Lowco bring home hardware over the weekend.

The Beaufort Eagles were up first in the Class 3A meet on Friday, and a pair of Eagles claimed state titles, as Anaiya Houseal won the high jump to go with her fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, and Eric Smart took gold in the 400 hurdles and placed fourth in the pole vault. Yzeult Antia was runner-up in the 800, eight in the 1600, and helped the Eagles place sixth in the girls 4x400 relay, and Amare Patterson placed fifth in the boys 200 and seventh in the 100.

Beaufort’s girls finished 7th overall with the boys in 14th.

On Saturday, the Clsas 4A and Class 2A meets were up, with plenty of Lowco representation. Hilton Head’s girls led the Lowco contingent in Class 4A with Shanice Ramson taking bronze in the 100 meters and Lillian Bigger placing fourth in the javelin to lead the charge, while May River’s boys placed 10th thanks to a big day for Noah Wasserman, who was runner-up in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600. Zach Sellers’ silver in the 400 helped Hilton Head High secure 11th place, and Earlon Baker of Bluffton and Ja’quez Haynes of Colleton County each claimed a fourth- and seventh-place finish.

In Class 2A, Hampton County’s boys finished fifth and the girls were sixth. Ka’Von Chisolm led the Hurricane boys with gold in the shot put, and Hezekiah Abrams placed second in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump, while Tyshana Leverette and Kya McQuire were the top scorers for the girls.

This weekend also marked the annual return of the All-American Football Camp at Hilton Head Island High School, where Seahawks coach BJ Payne brought some of his former players and opponents home to serve as camp coaches along with a host of high-profile college stars.

Team Lowco’s Carlo Perruzza made it out Friday night, and we shared some of his interviews on Friday’s LowcoSports Lowdown with more set to air on tonight’s show. Join us at 10pm on the Lowco Media Network.

We’ll also recap the first day of the Match Play at Congaree, where some of the Lowco’s top junior golfers will tee it up with standouts from around the Palmetto State. Stroke play was today with the match play bracket taking shape Tuesday on a world-class track outside Ridgeland.
