Marcus Tanner: One Million Pounds / New Truck / PVFD | Second Helpings

So far, we are just shy of 1 million pounds rescued for 2024! We hit the 1 million mark about every 4 months. All food is delivered free of charge to our 54 agencies throughout the tri-county area. Here on the Island, we hit approx. 220,000 lbs so far this year that has been donated by the island stores that goes back into the island agencies.

Buying a new truck $80k so far, still about 1/3 left to go. Our trucks are how we do things just like our volunteers are the lifeblood of Second Helpings. Our amazing volunteers drive our trucks throughout the SC low country and last year alone they drove just over 3 times around the globe! We are trying to purchase a new truck for our Beaufort area which is in desperate need of a new truck. We know our amazing supporters and community will rally behind us to help us get the new truck so we can continue to deliver much-needed food to those in need.

PVFD starts June 1, 2024! Starting Saturday June 1, 2024, food can be dropped off:
• In Coligny Plaza on Fridays and Saturdays, outside FISH Casual Coastal Seafood Restaurant, next to Piggly Wiggly across from Skillets;
• At the Grayco Hardware and Home Store on Saturday mornings from 7:30 until 10:00 am. Second Helpings volunteers will be on hand to collect food donations. The store is just off Palmetto Bay Road. Look for the Second Helpings van.
• At the Palmetto Dunes Pass Office throughout the week.
.
Fresh Express is a program that we have partnered with the Low Country Food Bank to bring much-needed fresh produce to the SH service area. We get a truck with about 5000 pounds of fresh, vibrant produce that is distributed out free of charge to those in need. We set it up at a local Second Helping agency and then hand it out until it's gone! It’s a great way to help a lot of people in a short amount of time. Today, this truck I am driving was set up at Christ Lutheran Church on Hilton Head Island and is available for anyone in need. We were so blessed that I was able to deliver it to other agencies here on the island to ensure every pound of food goes where it needs to.

As always, it's easier than ever to give back by donating your time, money, or donating food to those agencies who are serving the community. You don’t have to give big to make a big difference in the lives of those in need. Just $1 allows SH to put over 5 meals back into the community and that is life changing for some people. You can make a difference, and we would love to have you come out to help us help those in need.
