SPORTS REPORT

Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!

The second showdown between rivals Hilton Head Christian Academy and Hilton Head Prep was on tap last night in The Cage, with the Prep girls and HHCA boys hoping to flip the script from the first meetings, but to no avail.

Mya Hutchinson scored 24 points and Devon Yarde added 20, with Hutchinson and teammate Morgan Scott each being honored for reaching 1,000 career points, and the Eagles cruised to a 69-29 win to sweep the season series from the Dolphins.

Hilton Head Prep’s boys again avenged the girls defeat, though, pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 46-33 victory after HHCA used the four corners offense to run huge chunks off the clock and try to shorten the game. Jason Britschge finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Ben Frey had 10 points and 11 boards for the Dolphins.

In other SCISA action, John Paul the 2nd swept Beaufort Academy with Brady Mahoney putting up 30 points and 16 rebounds in the girls game and Sean Phelan had 14 to lead the JPII boys.

It was senior night in The Den with the Bluffton Bobcats hosting Lucy Beckham for a key region clash on senior night. It was the top two girls teams in the region doing battle, but the Bobcats left no doubt who is the frontrunner with a 68-41 victory behind 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists from Tacoya Heyward.

The Bobcats kept the boys game close throughout the first half, but Beckham opened up a 10-point lead at the break and kept Bluffton at bay in the second half.

Hilton Head’s girls won at Colleton Co., but the Cougars took the boys game to keep pace with James Island, which swept May River in the Deep End.

Battery Creek’s boys earned a 66-47 win at Hanahan to recharge their playoff hopes, and Hampton County’s boys stayed perfect in Region 6-2A with a road win over Edisto.

For LowcoSports and WHHI, I’m Justin Jarrett. Until next time, Go Lowco!
