Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!
Spring has sprung on the LowcoSports scene, and the soccer and lacrosse pitches and baseball and softball diamonds are seeing some overdue action around the Lowco.
Team Lowco’s Wes Kerr was out at Hilton Head Prep on Monday to check out the defending state champion Dolphins in their season-opener against Beaufort High, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Callah Dando scored a pair of first-half goals to stake the Dolphins to a lead, but Selena Duncan found the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to allow the Eagles to escape with a well-earned draw.
On the other side of the Broad River, Battery Creek’s boys blanked Hilton Head Prep 1-nil, while the girls from Bridges Prep routed Patrick Henry 7-1 – Taelyr Daugherty with a brace for the Bucs – and Beaufort Academy swept Polaris Tech. Keiley Good scored eight goals in a 14-0 win for the defending state champion girls, and Andrew Butterfield had a brace in a 4-1 win for the boys.
The Patrick Henry Academy baseball team began its SCISA title defense with a 19-6 win at Andrew Jackson Academy, getting three strong innings of shutout ball and two hits and three RBIs from Forest Fairey, and Hilton Head High split a pair at the Woodland Preseason Tournament, losing to Oceanside Collegiate before beating Barnwell 7-1 to give Matt Bauman his first win as a head coach.
The Seahawks’ girls lacrosse team also picked up a big win, hammering Calvary Day 21-1.
