Bluffton Self Help paves the path for education through adult education programs and local school partnerships. We offer English as a Second Language, GED, financial, and digital literacy classes, we host resume writing and interview skills workshops, and have earmarked $50,000 for higher education scholarships this academic year.
Supporting our community does not stop there. We know that teachers spend, on average, $750 out of pocket on school supplies each year. We aim to reduce the burden on teachers by collecting school supplies for all Bluffton classrooms.
We are collecting school supplies now and Bluffton teachers will be able to "shop" for what they need before school starts.
The Ida Martin Scholarship is named in honor of the founder of Bluffton Self Help who dedicated her life to helping her neighbors. What started nearly four decades ago by supporting our neighbors’ basic needs has evolved to providing education and training opportunities for all community members. Doing so allows them to improve their lifetime earning potential and pave their paths to success.
The education assistance program exists to support Lowcountry residents aspiring to earn an undergraduate/post-secondary degree or certificate at a publicly accredited South Carolina technical, trade, or vocational school, college, or university.
The scholarship will cover $1000 per semester and our hope is that we can assist 25 students this academic year. Applications are open now through Aug 16.
