From the treasure trove that is Hilton Head, SC, WHHITV presents the Highway 278 Bowl between the May River Sharks and the Hilton Head Seahawks presented by Summit Services!
These teams have met six times in the history of this rivalry with BJ Payne as head coach in all six, and the second in the tenure of head coach Richard Bonneville for May River.
Last year's matchup was a defensive slugfest leading May River to the playoffs with a 9-6 win. This year, however, the 6-0 Sharks take on a Hilton Head team that comes in 4-2 and has had some real moments including beating Hampton County, who is one of the best teams in the High School League ranks again in 2024.
At home, Hilton Head has played much better vs May River and collected the lone win in the six meetings between the two schools and have kept the scores competitive over the years.
Both teams do a lot of similar things with the run game working around solidly built offensive lines and have athletes everywhere on the field. The hits and big plays could be coming defensively as well.
May River wants to stay unblemished and on top, and Hilton Head wants to grab win number two vs the Sharks all-time and stay in the top half of region 64A that continues to compete every week.
