The Pat Conroy Literary Festival began as Pat Conroy's 70th birthday party. Now it continues each year as the Conroy Center's signature annual event for locals and visitors alike.
This year’s festival is Friday and Saturday, November 1 & 2, 2024, in Beaufort, SC at the USCB Center for the Arts and at the Conroy Center. Many events are entirely free. Those with fees range from $10 for an author panel discussion to $45 for a 90-minute writing workshop.
This year we have so many New York Times best-selling writers and so many programs for younger readers and their families!
Kwame Alexander (bestselling YA author of the Crossover and Door of No Return series)
Raj Haldar (bestselling children's book author and also the rapper and producer Lushlife)
Kirsten Miller (bestselling YA and adult author of Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books, How to Lead a Life of Crime, and The Change)
Panel of female mystery writers--Alicia Bessette, Susan M. Boyer, and Kristen Ness--moderated by Cassandra King Conroy
4 Writers workshops lead by 6 instructors, including Tim Conroy, John Warley, and Valerie Sayers
Friday night there is screening of the documentary feature film Banned Together about youth advocates, librarians, and educators protecting the right to read freely. Q&A with the producers afterwards, and a panel discussion beforehand moderated by superhero librarian Pat R. Scales.
Saturday night there is a musical performance by the Beaufort Mass Choir and closing reception at the Conroy Center.
